Community Acupuncture Clinics Offer Up Affordable Acupuncture

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Community Acupuncture Clinics Offer Up Affordable Acupuncture

Milwaukee, Wisconsin (February 18, 2010) – “Why all over America is there a sudden profusion of dimly lit rooms full of second-hand recliners, filled with peacefully dozing people – people of all ages, races, backgrounds, and occupations, all napping together? And why, if you look closely, do all of these people have very tiny needles sticking out of their hands, feet and heads?” – from Acupuncture is Like Noodles, by Lisa Rohleder et al.

Community acupuncture clinics are popping up across America and three of these clinics have recently opened their doors for business in Milwaukee. Their goal is to make acupuncture available to everyone. These clinics provide quality, convenient and low-cost health care to members of their community. They offer acupuncture on a sliding scale, generally between $15 to $40 per treatment. Patients determine where on the sliding scale they fall; there are no hardship waivers or income verifications to complete.

Community acupuncture clinics are able to charge so little for each treatment because they treat multiple patients together in a large, open room. Patients remain fully clothed and lie comfortably in reclining chairs or on massage tables. White noise machines and soft music allow patients to relax into their own space. Family members and friends enjoy coming in for treatment together and patients often comment that they enjoy a quiet, yet collective sense of healing energy in the room.

The community model allows more people access to acupuncture on a regular basis. It aims at separating the issues of money and healthcare and allows people to receive treatment regardless of whether or not they have health insurance. Acupuncture usually involves a course of treatments and with community acupuncture people are able to come in when they need to, not when they can afford to.

With three community acupuncture clinics now serving three different communities throughout Milwaukee, acupuncture has very quickly become accessible here. Community acupuncture encourages and empowers people to take charge of their own health and healthy individuals comprise healthy communities.

Timeline of Community Acupuncture growth in Milwaukee:

In August of 2009, Janet Fritz converted her private acupuncture practice on 2nd Street to a community-style clinic, called Balance Point Community Acupuncture.

In September 2009, Milwaukee Community Acupuncture opened it’s doors in Bay Veiw and has given over 1,000 treatments since.

In February 2010, Riverwest Community Acupuncture opened their location on Locust Street.

Free Acupuncture Treatments!

Milwaukee Community Acupuncture is almost 6 months old and to celebrate we are offering another free day!  On Tuesday, February 23rd Amy and I will be giving free acupuncture treatments from 4-8pm.  If you’ve been thinking about trying acupuncture, but haven’t gotten around to it, this would be a great opportunity to check it out.  Don’t have any specific ailments, but still want to give it a try?  No worries, we love to give treatments for general health and wellness.  We believe that preventative medicine is the best medicine!

Our massage therapist, Stefanie, will also be offering up free 5 minute chair massages during our free treatment night and our lovely esthetician, Laurie will be running the desk.  It will be a great opportunity to meet them both and learn about their services at Milwaukee Community Acupuncture.

Appointments are required for the acupuncture treatments.  Call 414-943-1915 to schedule.  Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Lectures

Hope everyone is having a great new year! We’ve been keeping busy at the clinic planning new events for this February and March.

On February 2nd we’ll be giving a lecture and demonstration to our friend Noor Jawad’s women’s group. Noor is a life coach, and she is certified in Reiki and Hypnosis.

On March 2nd we’ll be hosting a lecture and demonstration for Fit Milwaukee at our space.

We’ll be announcing our next FREE DAY very soon. Free days offer those who are interested in acupuncture the chance to come in and try it out for free to see if they like it. These days are for new clients only.

We’ll be shooting a video this weekend of a first-timer coming in for some acupuncture. We’ll be posting it up here once it’s all done!  The video will walk you through what it’s like to come in for your first appointment. It’ll take some of the mystery out of it, and help those who are new to acupuncture to feel comfortable their first time in the space.

That’s all the news for now.

Be well,

Amy & Olivia

An exciting week of lectures!

This past week Olive and I presented two lectures about what Traditional Chinese Medicine is in a nutshell. We had a great time getting to know these two groups, and I wanted to take a minute to share the experience with all of our readers.

On Wednesday we presented at the D&S Healing Center, a co-located state licensed mental health, drug and alcohol clinic for men. They offer on-site holistic mental health services  for a variety mental health needs including psychological disorders/distress and trauma resolution. Men with a history of domestic violence are sent to D&S by the state for a 8-12 week program which meets 2-3 times a week. After completeing the program, the men are much less likely to commit acts of domestic violence and are equipped with tools to help reduce their stress and overcome drug and/or alcohol addictions.

We are happy to say that we will now be a part of their program! Each new group that comes in will receive information about acupuncture and it’s effectiveness in reducing stress levels, helping to release traumas, and break the cycles of addiction. As well as information we will be giving introductory treatments to the groups.

We were blown away by the dedication and sensitivity by those who work at the D&S Healing Center, and by the receptiveness of the men in the program.

On Friday morning we presented at the Racine Founders Rotary Club where my father-in-law Bill Seidel is an active member. Rotarians come up with community service projects and raise funds that benefit the local community, with the main benefactor being the local youth. Their projects address helping children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence.

The members of the club were incredibly fun-loving and enthusiastic, even at 7am! They had some really well-thought out questions, and they seemed really interested in Racine Community Acupuncture and their programs for veterans.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in having Olive and I come out to do a short presentation, please call or email us. We’d love to continue to spread the word about TCM and what it can do for others!

Tote Bags

Milwaukee Community Acupuncture now has some nice, canvas tote bags with our logo on it.  We are selling them for $10.  Feel free to pop in and pick one up and help spread the word about community acupuncture.  Our bags were printed by Whitney Teska of Orchard Street Press.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We’d like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! We will be closed on Thursday, but will be open Friday and Saturday. Right now Friday is all booked up, but we may be adding hours if there is interest. Just give us a call at 414.943.2915!

Our Saturday hours will be from 1:30 to 4:00pm due to Art Vs. Craft. Olive will be selling her handmade goods there this year, so Amy will be needling (after doing her holiday shopping at Art vs. Craft) and our friend Bonnie will be up at the desk.

Have a relaxing holiday!
